Wash attended a brilliant seminar at The Storey, Lancaster, put together by the team at ‘What Could Be’ - the day was well worth the visit and would be great to take clients to. A wonderful insight as to how we work, or ‘should’ be working with our clients. New Design Thinking!

TheTaps

Posted by Andy on December 16, 2011

The Taps Lytham was once again our destiny of choice for some fine ale and banter. A humble Christmas doo starting with a hearty fish and chip supper at Whelan’s chippy, then off to the pub to put the world to rights and raise a toast to 2011. Thanks to all the team for making it a load of fun a long the way.

Thanks to Jake from JP74 for putting on a great night with D&AD North and supplying the one and only pic of the evening.

The creation of 3D geometric shapes seems to have become somewhat of a habitual thing for me here. Sometimes it’s good to get away from the computer.

Studio Visitor

Posted by Emma on November 4, 2011

We’ve got a very sleepy and well behaved visitor in the studio today, Tom’s dog Fern. She’s had a sniff around the studio and has now decided its nap time.

It’s been a busy, hectic year. So this has become part of the studios stable diet it seems. That and the pub.

Wash, Because Studio and Object all took a trip up to Edinburgh for a few days for a bit of sightseeing, pub visting and whiskey drinking. Good time had by all.

Stumbled across this beautiful work by Ron Gilad earlier this morning, I love the single line forms and minimalist look of these sculptures, more images here.

What better way to start a Monday morning. Today watching Roy Harper sat on the sofa, Breakfast BBC talking about his new album! My musical legend… long may he travel.

Ashton Canal

Posted by Chris on September 13, 2011

Took a walk down the canal from Ancoats in Manchester city centre to Ashton-Under-Lyne which is about 8 miles. Love the canals, more so now that they are surrounded by the crumbling remnants of industry. Very romantic.

SICK-KIDD

Tom Kidd and Chris Anderson attended a Boss Model Agency bash in Manchester last night. It has to be said they are a disgrace this morning after consuming far too much Champagne. However, they still managed to be at their posts this morning and actually able to function of a sorts… not bad.

My son came in today to find Morris our cat content in the fruit bowl. He took this picture that made me chuckle!

Posted by Andy on August 27, 2011

On holiday this year I was blissfully unaware of what was happening in our land back home in the UK. Came across this illustration by a guy called Mr Phomer. A good reflection of the state of our cultural mind set?

FRENCHTYPE

Travelling back through flat northern France and came across this factory standing proud on the landscape. Great type forms that looked like they where moulded out of concrete. Imagine a company going to that effort today?

I love print! Especially when it arrives in a box on a grey Friday morning. It’s like a birthday present. The feel of the paper, the smell of the ink. The binding, the foiling… God bless her and all who sail in her! Thanks Mr and Mrs Smith, thanks.

Portishead @ Alexandra Palace

Last weekend Portishead curated I’ll Be Your Mirror, a two day festival at Alexandra Palace; the highest point in the city of London and former home of BBC Radio. Despite looking uncomfortable with a stage that size their sound managed to fill the epic space with ease.

Wash attended an event last night at the Harris Museum, an event that is hoping to attract some good investment into the Preston Guild 2012. We were there pushing a project we’re involved with that involves Jan Chlebik’s panoramic photography of the many different folk that makes up our ‘city’.

Now I realise Roger Waters isn’t everyone’s cup of tea in our studio… but, I popped down to see The Wall last night in Manchester and WOW, what an amazing visual display. Total theatre. Even if you are not a Floydian, well worth seeing in my humble opinion.

As per Andy’s earlier post, the epic road trip up to Newcastle to art direct some portrait photographs turned out to be a pleasant feast for our eyes when we arrived and saw the offices. As well as a great brand identity, the interior of Faulknerbrowns was amazing with lots of open space and subtle lighting.

I was kindly invited to talk at a Mini Network event… Only to find it isn’t always easy to get your views across in front of an audience. I enjoyed the experience, but I felt it maybe could have done with a little more cut and thrust. After all creativity is about challenge things is it not?

Wash and Because Studio Party

Bank holidays are made for doing stuff like this! I spent a few hours on Sunday at the Manchester Velodrome “hitting the boards” with Clitheroe Bike Club. Once you’ve built up the confidence to make your way up the track you can really get flying. Chris Hoy watch your back… an awesome experience which comes highly recommended.
