MediaCityUK
Crikey. What a year! And all kicking off with MediaCityUK, after being commissioned to capture and document the construction of the site, we then got involved in the rebrand of the whole development. This consequently led from ‘one thing to another’, dominating 8 months of our year. Not ideal for a small practice, but at the time an opportunity we felt not to be missed.
MediaCityUK

Not wanting to take an obvious and consciously technical approach to the concept of ‘media’, we chose instead to explore a more intimately emotional route. We made the basis of our brand ‘human response to media’. After all we figured that this is the ultimate result of anything conveyed via ‘media’… human response.

Creating a set of images that captured brief moments of ‘emotional response’ we worked with John Spinks at East Photographic back in April this year, subjecting our models to various stimuli i.e. films, music, games, news and captured their reactions.

The original idea behind the logo mark came from a source of various scientific emotional graphs but then also, as requested by the client, needed to reflect the master plan of the development. Tricky.

Web Design Index 8

When we created our current website back in 2005 we got bombarded by many complimentary emails from designers and creatives from all over the globe. We had hit after hit and came highly recommended on many design forum web portals. Consequently we ended up being featured in this book. But now we need to move on… it’s been 3 years now and time for a change. So a site update will be due in 2009…

Teesside High School

Teesside High needed a new logo mark and a whole new look as their current image was looking a little tired, yet the school has lots to offer. The message just wasn’t coming across. After visiting the school and feeling the really positive approach the school had adopted, illustration was the only route we felt could really capture what was going on, where ‘everything is possible’. We turned to Jenny Bowers from our friends in the big smoke… Peepshow, for that magic touch.

Talk Talk

Right now the creative industry is bigger and more supported by Government than it has ever been. There are more and more courses teaching our young adults the hows and how nots.

So, as Wash started from nothing, with not one account to our name and without poaching previous employers’ clients… we have an interesting story to tell.

Invited in to The University of Central Lancashire on a now regular basis we do a talk on ‘the school of hard knocks’ we figure that’s worth more than any government handout.

Bolton Community College

Staying with our educational theme. In Autumn this year
we won the new branding for Bolton Community College
with the intention of working on a capture programme for their £80million rebuild.

The brand will be rolled out across 2009.

Also continuing this year was our involvement within the regeneration sector. ReBlackpool and London Thames Gateway have kept us busy capturing and documenting their improvements in both locations.

And finally… we say goodbye and good luck to our business partner Andrew Shaw who has decided to go and live in Finland along with his Finnish wife Anu and two children, Aida and Bea.

However, it’s not completely over as we are hoping to work with Andrew in assisting his new activities over in Finland in 2009… better get our thermals on.
